"My Outsourced Life"
Even though A.J. Jacobs is known for his humorously-toned articles, the sarcastic and somewhat mocking tone of this article is blatant. Jacobs starts off the article by stating, "I really shouldn't have to write this article myself. I mean, why am I the one stuck in front of a computer terminal?... Can't someone else do it?" (Page 1). The author's opinion on the idea of 'outsourcing' and it's growing emphasis in American Corporations is clearly negative, identified through the mocking tone of the above quote. After experiencing a full month of outsourcing, in his personal life and career, Jacobs begins to understand why outsourcing is effective for many people, but still is consistent with his point that outsourcing can be taken way too far: "I've become addicted to outsourcing. I am desperate to delegate everything in my life but have to face the depressing reality that there are limits" (5). Jacobs gives off the idea that once you start, you can't stop! In the modern globalized world of the 21st century, outsourcing is seen as an easy solution to become more efficient in your work life, and sometimes even personal life, but when is enough really enough? Jacobs utilizes his sarcastic and humorous tone to poke fun at the idea of outsourcing and the absurdity associated with it, in his article "My Outsourced Life".
